Welcome, ECFS families

Eligibility criteria and determination is at the discretion of the NYC Department of Transportation and NYC Department of Education. ECFS is not permitted to issue Student OMNY Cards to students without a legal New York City address. Student OMNY Card eligibility is based on a student’s grade level, walking distance between home and school, and existing accommodations.

Student OMNY Cards are valid all year long and don’t expire until the beginning of the next school year. OMNY Cards are distributed in September. If a student loses their OMNY Card, please report it immediately to the division transportation coordinator to void the pass. The office will request a new pass from the Department of Education and may issue a temporary card. There is a limit of three (3) replacement OMNY Cards per year per student. Eligibility Restrictions

• Pre-K students are not eligible.
• Westchester County, Connecticut, and New Jersey residents are not eligible.
• Any child with a home-to-school distance of less than ½ mile is not eligible. 
• Families who elect to utilize free Department of Education “Yellow Bus” Transportation are not eligible to also apply for a Student OMNY Card.

Additional Information

• Student OMNY Cards are good for four trips each school day, allowing a student to travel to school, from school to an after-school activity, and from that activity to home.
• The Student OMNY Card may be used 24 hours a day, all year long, including weekends, holidays, and during summer break.
• Full-fare student OMNY Cards are provided at no cost to eligible students and are valid on MTA subways and non-express buses..
• Students get one free transfer from subway to bus, bus to subway, or bus to bus within two hours of tapping in at an OMNY card reader.

Routes are available between Riverdale and Manhattan’s East Side (BXM1) and West Side (BXM2) for Fieldston Middle and Fieldston Upper students. Express buses honor Pay-Per-Ride MetroCards, 7-Day Express Bus Plus MetroCard or $7.25 per trip exact change. Express buses do not accept weekly unlimited, monthly unlimited, or Student MetroCards. Divisions: Fieldston Lower, Fieldston Middle, Fieldston Upper

Several Westchester County municipalities provide free transportation to students from Westchester County to the Fieldston Campus. Applications to these bus companies must be obtained by families directly from their local school board. In most cases, these applications are available online on the district’s website. It is the obligation of the parents to make transportation arrangements when public school schedules differ, or if the local district has an early dismissal or is closed for weather-related reasons when the Fieldston campus remains open. 

Some Westchester bus companies have students from different schools on one bus. Typically routes are shared with Horace Mann and/or Riverdale Country School. Below is a listing of school districts that have serviced Fieldston students in the past, however, it is up to the families to make direct arrangements with them. 

Please note that portions of these communities may exceed the maximum distance of travel; please see the district's individual page for details. The deadline for requesting Westchester public school district transportation is at the beginning of April.

Divisions: Fieldston Middle, Fieldston Upper

Fieldston Middle and Fieldston Upper students are eligible for the Metro North Railroad Mail & Ride Program. This program provides monthly passes at a discounted rate between two predefined stations. This ticket can be used by the registered student at any point during the month. The school would register the student, then Metro North would send families an email with instructions to access the account and pay online. The three closest stations to the Fieldston Campus are Riverdale, Spuyten Duyvil Station, and Marble Hill Station. 

From Riverdale Station: Students can walk 10 minutes to the Bx10 and Bx7 at Riverdale Ave/West 254 St and take a 7 minute ride to Fieldston (it drops off near the back gate of campus).

From Spuyten Duyvil Station: Students can walk 10 minutes to the Bx10 at Kappock St/Johnson Ave and take a 10 minute ride to Fieldston (it drops off near the back gate of campus).

From the Marble Hill Station: Students can walk 5 minutes to the Bx7 at Broadway/W 225 Street and take a 10 minute ride to Fieldston (it also drops off near the back gate of campus).

Metro North Railroad Mail & Ride Contact Information: For questions about your Mail&Ride account, you can call 511. (In Connecticut, call 877-690-5114; outside of New York or Connecticut, call 877-690-5116.) Say "Metro-North Railroad," and then say "Mail and Ride" for Mail&Ride. Representatives are available to help Monday-Friday from 7am-6:30pm.

Selby Bus Service contracts for each school year will be available in April here. 

Final Selby contract payments are due in June. Contracts received after the deadline will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and only if the additional contract does not necessitate a change in the route. 

Families contract independently for round-trip or one-way service. The bus company is responsible for managing routes and service. Route information and pickup times will become available prior to the start of the school year. Please note that while Selby is able to accommodate alternate morning stops for two-household families, there will be no alternate morning stops allowed for extracurricular activities.

Selby provides designated-stop transportation for Fieldston Middle and Upper students to the Fieldston campus from Manhattan, the Bronx, and, pending ridership enrollment, parts of Westchester and New Jersey. 

Ethical Culture

Due to low enrollment, Selby Bus Service has not serviced Ethical Culture for several years. Families interested in this service option should indicate such interest on the All School Student Transportation Form. Service may be expanded to Ethical Culture should enough families express interest. 

Fieldston Lower

The bus company will provide door-to-door transportation for Fieldston Lower students to the Fieldston campus from Manhattan, the Bronx, and, pending ridership enrollment, parts of Westchester and New Jersey. In some circumstances, some designated-stop transportation may be required if bus routes are expected to exceed 60 minutes. Students will not be permitted to switch routes in the afternoon until the end of September or as designated by the Transportation Coordinator.

Families may elect to send their child to school via private car service or an alternative private bus service. Families who decide to use a private car or alternative bus service should be advised that the school is not responsible for the contractual relationship between you and the carrier.
