Our Fieldston Upper Dance Company participates in a repertory project each year, working directly with an acclaimed local choreographer. This year, the Dance Repertory Project celebrated 30 years of providing Fieldston dance students with a first-hand experience with New York City’s dance heritage.

Fieldston Upper was honored to add David Dorfman to the esteemed roster of collaborators, and on a Friday evening in January, the talented Fieldston Upper Dance Company performed for the community.

The evening included an excerpt from “(A) Way Out Of My Body” performed by the Fieldston Upper Dance Company, excerpts from a brand new David Dorfman dance called “Truce Song,” performed by David Dorfman himself, plus student-choreographed studies inspired by their exposure to David’s process, dances, and the amazing guest dancers from his company.

This special performance was dedicated to Alice Teirstein, who originated the dance program at ECFS in 1976. With a passion for dance education and tireless devotion to encouraging young people to create dances, she built a program that was embraced by the community and respected throughout the New York City professional dance world. Alice conceived of and implemented the first Repertory Project in 1991–1992 with the company of Jose Limon. Since her retirement in 2010, the Repertory Project has been going strong with a stellar roster of choreographers who have given our dancers an unmatched experience in their artistic development.

Congratulations to Gabriela A. ’24, Logan F. ’25, and Elsa L. ’23, who were outstanding, and a huge thank you to Theatre and Dance Teacher Rob O’Neil, David Dorfman, and the entire performing arts team, who supported the dancers this past semester.
