The Fieldston Middle Model United Nations (Model UN) Club has much to be proud of this year. Not only did the team successfully pivot to an entirely remote structure because of the ongoing pandemic, but it also excelled at every competition it attended. The students worked hard and were rewarded with a variety of commendations celebrating them both individually and as a whole club.

Model UN offers an authentic simulation of the General Assembly, Security Council, and other sessions of the United Nations. Students in Model UN rigorously — yet diplomatically — debate a topic using the knowledge and research they have on hand. The club is a platform for students to get experience in the rules and procedures of the United Nations, and to practice research, critical thinking, and public speaking.

The Fieldston Middle Model UN Club competed at eight virtual conferences during the 2020–2021 academic year and won the following awards:

  • Best Delegation Award from National High School Model UN and Ursuline School (This award recognizes the full team of students.)
  • Outstanding Delegate (12 total wins across the team)
  • Best Delegate (13 total wins across the team)
  • Verbal Commendation (eight total wins across the team)

The team is particularly proud of winning the Best Delegation Award, as this recognizes the work of all of the students and celebrates their ability to succeed as a group. Caroline Stuart, Fieldston Middle History Teacher and Model UN advisor, says, “I am very proud of them!”

The ECFS community shares the feeling of pride — go, Fieldston Middle Model UN, go!
